Generation Gap

from Ends 'n' Odds by Tom Smith

/

about

I was not a fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Or the later Star Trek series. The most basic reason, which only became evident to me after several years, was that they did their level best to follow the John W. Campbell model for writing science fiction -- follow your premise through to its logical completion, no matter where it takes you -- but they started with the stupidest, most ludicrous premises.

At this late date, I have no desire to go back and relive the series. Patrick Stewart is still a superb actor, and there are many vehicles I can see him in where he doesn't have to spout some of the crap lines given to Jean-Luc Picard. Fill in any other name and their character, and that still applies. There are plenty of pictures of Marina Sirtis and her cleavage on the 'Net. But, most of all, I don't have to see any new episodes with Q.
