about

While Sasquan was going on in downtown Spokane, WA, an appreciable percentage of the state around us was on fire. The night of the masquerade and my concert, there was a health alert from the city, with signs posted all over the place warning people not to be outside if they could help it. So, I whipped up this little ditty. Some winds came through before sunrise, and -- for several hours, at least -- the skies were clear.

Of course, "Tribbles" refers to Guest of Honor David Gerrold.

And, sorry for the big WHOMP in the middle of the second verse. The sound man was adjusting my vocal mic, and I couldn't get rid of it without getting rid of the whole passage. Ahh, the magic of live performance!

lyrics

You take Lincoln, I'll take Brown,
Neither way'll get us out of town.
Smokane,
Fires all around this domain.

Can't see sun, can't see rain,
Just cough up clouds with a yellow stain,
Smokane,
City's goin' up in flame.

Ooh-ooh, mama, come here fast,
I need a backup Super Soaker blast,
Smokane,
Fighting this myself's a pain.

C'mon, you techies, get inspired,
We need a firewall for actual fire,
Smokane,
"Open fire" ain't a command in this game.

WorldCon is the hottest place to be,
Looks like the state took it literally,
Smokane --
We can stack up Tribbles!
... Just sayin'.
